Discussing Life Sciences Trends at J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference and OneMedForum

This week, our life sciences team is heading out to San Francisco to attend J.P. Morgan’s 29th Annual Healthcare Conference, one of the life science industry’s largest and most important annual gatherings.
This year, conference coordinators have estimated approximately 300 companies — both public and private — will be presenting. In addition, Nancy-Ann DeParle, Counselor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Health Reform, is one of the luncheon keynote speakers. It should be interesting to hear her take on healthcare reform and its implications for new business opportunities in the industry.
Each year, I always look forward to attending this event; I see it as an opportunity to meet with some of the best and brightest minds in healthcare. From entrepreneurs who are attempting to grow their companies to large, multi-national corporations looking for new ideas and innovation, it’s truly an inspiring way to kick off any new year.
It’s also a tremendous opportunity to discuss the big issues and trends that will impact healthcare with industry executives and thought leaders. Inevitably, I know the conversation will turn to the state of IPOs, investment opportunities, the impact of healthcare reform, and the hottest medical and advancements and technologies, and I look forward to participating in these discussions.
The J.P.Morgan Healthcare Conference is being held at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, Calif., and will run from Monday, Jan. 10 through Thursday, Jan. 13. If you’re interested in more information, you can visit: events.jpmorgan.com.
While I’m out in San Francisco, I’ll be moderating a Diagnostics and Personalized Medicine Panel at the OneMedForum San Francisco 2011 on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 8:00am PST. Running concurrently with the J.P Morgan conference, OneMedForum will take place from Jan. 11 through Jan. 13 at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel.
Joining me on the panel will be Scott T. Garrett, Former Chairman and CEO of Beckman Coulter, Inc.; Paul Grossman, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development at Life Technologies; Dr. Risa Stack, Partner at KPCB; and Ben Verwer, Ph.D., MBA, Director, Strategic Planning and Business Development at Becton Dickinson. Together, we’ll discuss the evolution of diagnostics and discuss the specific product areas and business models that have made diagnostics an area of increasing interest from investors. It should be an compelling conversation, highlighting different perspectives from investors, physicians and industry executives alike.
