After selling its engine parts division in 1978, Safeguard Industries focused its energy and resources on embracing game-changing technologies in the dawn of the information age. By the end of 1980, the company had completely withdrawn itself from remanufactured parts due to a weakening aftermarket resulting from fluctuations in price and availability of gasoline, high interest rates and the automobile downsizing trend.

Safeguard navigated the shift form cars to computers, preparing itself to become a force to be reckoned with in the field of technology.
